As a university professor and president of the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB), I want to introduce you to this great organization. We applaud and support your work and feel strongly that your faculty and students would benefit from being a part of the SNEB family. SNEB represents the unique professional interests of nutrition educators worldwide and is dedicated to promoting effective nutrition education through research, policy and practice and has a vision of healthy communities, food systems and behaviors.

One of the many resources available to your program from the Society is the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior (JNEB), published ten times a year. JNEB’s scope includes nutrition and physical activity behavior theories and intervention outcomes; complementary and alternative medicine related to nutrition behaviors; food, nutrition, and physical activity communication strategies including technology; nutrition-related economics; and scholarship of learning related to these areas. The Journal is an excellent way to publish your program’s research since average days from submission to first decision is less than one month.

I also encourage you to consider presenting your program’s insights and findings through abstract presentations. In July 2017, more than 700 nutrition educators from around the world will gather in Washington, DC, for SNEB’s 50th Annual Conference to learn from hundreds of oral and poster abstract authors. Abstract submission begins November 1 with late breaking research accepted through March 1. All accepted abstracts are published as a citable reference in JNEB.

Recognizing the importance of investing in the next generation, SNEB actively supports students. At the annual conference there are research awards, scholarship opportunities, registration assistance, and mentoring available to students at all levels. Additionally, there is a student serving as a member of the SNEB Board of Directors to help us understand and foster students’ success through new strategic initiatives. A recent initiative is the publication of SNEB’s “Nutrition Educator Competencies for Promoting Healthy Individuals, Communities, and Food Systems.” This checklist aims to serve as a benchmark for both educational programs and students.

Whether you are looking for a forum to report results or learn from nutrition education work being done globally, SNEB is the place where research and practice intersect. Please consider how membership in the Society, whether at the individual or institutional level, will benefit the professional development of your colleagues and students.
