Barbara Shannon’s, PhD, current interests include watercolor, oil painting, and participation in local art groups. Prior to retirement, Shannon spent over 20 years in nutrition education and also served as SNEB president in 1991. Membership to SNEB allowed her to grow in her career.
“It provided me with valuable colleagues and friends and gave me an out let for research publications and scholarly presentations,” Shannon said.
To young professionals, Shannon noted the friendships she created over her years and how important they are for careers.
“Stay connected with colleagues who have professional interests similar to yours,” she said.
Shannon earned her bachelors from the University of Tennessee, Masters from University of Illinois, and Doctorate from Purdue University. She is Dean Emerita of the College of Health & Human Development at Pennsylvania State University.
